Cardano Roadmap

Objective

The Cardano Governance Roadmap is an interactive timeline designed to make governance progress clear and visible.

Over the years, milestones, protocol upgrades, and governance updates were shared across different platforms. While the information was available, there was no single place to see the full journey.

This project brought that history together into one connected experience. The goal was to present complex information in a way that felt structured, transparent, and easy to navigate.

The roadmap was designed to show how governance has evolved over time, remain flexible as new milestones are introduced, and work seamlessly across desktop and mobile.

At its core, the project focused on making transparency simple and accessible through design.

Challenge

Cardano’s governance history spans many years of upgrades, decisions, and community milestones. The challenge was turning this complex history into a clear and easy-to-follow experience.

The timeline needed to show progress without overwhelming users. It had to make technical information feel structured and understandable, while still reflecting the depth of the ecosystem.

Research showed that many interactive timelines focus too much on visual effects and complex interactions. Dense layouts, small touch areas, and unnecessary controls often make them harder to use, especially on mobile.

For this project, simplicity was key. The experience needed to feel engaging but intuitive, work smoothly across all devices, and remain flexible as new milestones were added over time.

Background

High Fidelity Designs

A high-fidelity prototype was created in Figma to define the full interaction model and visual behaviour of the timeline. The designs were built using the Cardano brand system to ensure the experience felt consistent with the wider ecosystem while maintaining clarity and credibility.

Working closely with the development team, particularly the WebGL specialist, we translated these designs into a system that was both flexible and engaging. The timeline was structured so it could be easily updated as new milestones emerged, while the interactive WebGL layer added depth and movement, making the experience more immersive and enjoyable as users explored and learned.

It was equally, if not more, important that the experience worked seamlessly on mobile. The layouts, animations, and interaction patterns were carefully optimised to ensure the timeline remained smooth, readable, and intuitive on smaller screens without losing its visual impact.

Design & Delivery

The mobile high-fidelity prototype was also created in Figma, with supporting visual assets developed in Adobe Illustrator.

Following launch, the Cardano team determined that the roadmap would be best positioned within Intersect, a member-based organisation supporting the Cardano ecosystem, and the experience was later integrated into the Intersect website.

The site has been live since 2023 and is now fully managed by the Intersect team.
